Mandala Message, 2012
Linoprint and thread on layers of rice and kozo papers, edition of 2
The mandala I have created draws attention to our fragile environment and the care it needs. To remind us of this, my arms are held in a gesture of loving kindness. Each stitch that I created is a silent prayer for our planet carried by the winds and whispered to all.
This shimmering layer of meditative, repetitive stitches resembles maps depicting meteorological air pressure patterns, lines of latitude and contours found on maps. The quilt like appearance symbolizes care and comfort.

Life Lines, 2012
Digital print, embossing, edition of 3
Exhibited: Impress Printmakers Studio Brisbane Inc, 'Regenerate', 2014.
Life Lines references the intriguing, intersecting overhead network of lines that provided power to the Brisbane trams between 1885 and 1969. These overhead electrical wires were once a vital aspect of the urban transport system that wove through many suburbs following the network of major roads. These rivers of lines, silhouetted against the sky, created intriguing designs, shapes and patterns.
The use of hands is a recurring motif in Catherine’s body of work. She uses the symbolism and narrative of the hand gesture in her work as a mark of her personal connection to the story telling. Incorporating meditative, repetitive marks enables Catherine to draw the viewer into her artwork to experience an emotional current. A blueprint plan of Kedron Sub Station No. 8 and tram gauge make further connections to the history of tram ways in Brisbane.
Disappearing Wallum, 2012,
Lino print, stencil, thread, aluminium flashing tape, BFK Rives 300gsm, image size: 28cm (H) x 21cm (W), edition size: 14
Over 80% of the 21 million Australians live within 100 kilometres of the coast placing enormous pressure on our coastal wallum habitats.
The earth is scoured clean of natural vegetation and levelled to precise elevations. Housing estates appear within the blink of an eye. Flora and fauna (their names recorded within my landscape) are lost under a layer of development. Waterproof surfaces (roofs, concrete, bitumen, etc.) replace nature. The motif of a traditional patchwork house repeated, like a quilt, depicts the new landscape.
